I am a jewler/metalsmith located in Charlottesville, Virginia working under the trade name "Rani Morris Designs" My affinity for nature and upbringing in Pakistan, specifically my early exposure to the tribal embroidery and mehndi in Sindh Province, inspires many of my designs. I enjoy the subtle interplay of natural and spiritual symbolism, which often manifests in combinations of floral and geometric shapes. I also play on the more practical applications of Victorian era jewelry. For example, I make sterling silver tussie mussies, the Victorian brooch that doubles as a miniature flower vase. I use precious and semiprecious stones to accent and add complexity to my work. My passion for metalsmithing derives from an interest in the recyclability of metals. I love the infinite life of metal, the fact that something old can become new again and even this new state isn't static, or guaranteed.
