Cherie Mehler
I began my “glass” journey in stained glass, but after taking my first fused-glass class, in Richmond, I was hooked. I bought a kiln soon after and began working with kiln-formed glass in my basement. We moved to Greenwood in 2021, and I converted a tractor barn into a studio.
I am constantly inspired by the beautiful scenery outside that studio. Glass is endlessly fascinating as a medium, and I continually experiment to see how far I can “push” the glass. Using glass sheets, stringers and crushed glass, I strive to create work that is functional and beautiful.
Recently I have been inspired by geometric and quilting patterns. It is my opinion that glass shows itself best in sunlight, so garden stakes and outdoor art compose a large part of my work.
